Northwood wins 48-0, finishes 6-4

NORTHWOOD — Northwood football closed its season with a 6-4 record, shutting out visiting LakeVille (Michigan), 48-0, Friday.

However, the Rangers will play no more because they are mathematically eliminated from the Division V playoffs. LakeVille finishes the season 1-8.

The Rangers scored three times in the first quarter — on a 12-yard run by junior halfback Jason St. Claire, a 51-yard run by freshman Jaylen Archer, and an 18-yard run by junior halfback Landon Kidd.

In the second quarter, St. Claire scored from the other side of the ball, returning a fumble recovery 31 yards to the house.

St. Claire scored his third TD on an 11-yard run in the third quarter. Also in the third, sophomore quarterback Tyler Osley scored on a 30-yard run and senior Anthony Gomez scored on a 50-yard punt return.

The Rangers had 219 yards rushing and held LakeVille to minus-34 on the ground, but LakeVille did have 59 yards through the air, finishing with 25 total yards.

St. Claire had four carries for 32 yards, senior Julien Chappell had four carries for 40 yards, senior running back Luke Szekeres had two carries for 16 yards, Osley had five carries for 39 yards, and freshman fullback Kevin O’Donnell had two carries for eight yards for the Rangers.

Northwood senior Codey Wheeler had two carries for 13 yards, Kidd had two carries for 26 yards, and Archer’s one 51-yard run for a TD made him Northwood’s leading rusher.
