Nomaguchi-Long, Challu are BGHS Students of the Month

The Bowling Green Exchange Club and Bowling Green High School have announced that Lucy Nomaguchi-Long is the September Student of the Month and that Samuel Challu is the October Student of the Month.

Both are seniors at BGHS and will graduate on May 25.

Lucy Nomaguchi-Long is the daughter of Kei Nomaguchi and James Long.

Her school honors and activities include membership in the National Honors Society, National French Honors Society, Model United Nations president, and the Class of 2025 president. She has been recognized as a National Merit Semi-Finalist, AP scholar with Distinction, National Rural and Small Town Recognition award, and National African American Recognition award.

Nomaguchi-Long is very involved in Model United Nations where she has earned the recognition of Outstanding Delegate, Distinguished Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, and Best Delegate in competitions at Harvard, University of Chicago, Ohio State, and Dayton.

Outside of school, she has represented Bowling Green High School at the HOBY leadership conference and has also been a research assistant at BGSU in the life sciences department. She is very involved and an accomplished figure skater. In 2023, she earned the Senior Gold Moves National Gold Medal in the U.S. Figure Skating Test.

Nomaguchi-Long currently has a 4.5 GPA, has an ACT composite score of 35, and a 1580 SAT score. After high school, she plans to attend a college on the east coast majoring in molecular biology with a possible double major of political science. In addition, Lucy would like to continue to pursue art by having an art minor.

Challu is the son of Amilcar Challu and Amy Robinson.

His school honors and activities include membership in the National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, National Hispanic Recognition Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, and National Rural and Small Town recognition. He is involved in the high school cross country team where he is currently the team captain. Additionally, he participates in the high school orchestra where he is the student president and section leader.

Outside of school, Challu has participated in the BGSU PICNICS program where he was an intern in the photochemical science department. Last summer, he studied abroad in Spain through his enrollment in college courses.

Challu has a composite ACT score of 34, and a 4.46 grade point average. After high school, he plans on attending a four-year university and concentrating in mathematics.
