Groups: Garden Group of Women’s Club of Bowling Green

Garden Group of GFWC Women’s Club of Bowling Green gathered on September 17th at the Wood County Museum to hear Karen Wood, active museum participant, speak on the history of the herb garden and lead a tour of the Culinary, Medicinal, Fragrant and Everlasting sections. Congregating in the refurbished former Boiler Room near the herb garden grounds, members enjoyed snacks, including herb infused cookies, and additional social time before Co-President Susan Enright opened the meeting with each member answering roll call by telling which herbs they use for cooking.

Linda Frizzell presented on the Lobelia plant, an annual in our planting zone, and Jo Vernon reported on Wood Wrens and how they listen for food. Linda Hamilton reported on the OAGC convention held in August at Maumee Bay State Park. She advised there were several interesting breakout sessions including horticulture operations at the Toledo Zoo, Gardening for Wellness, and composting ideas from Hirzel Farms. OAGC awarded 4 scholarships for this year. Linda Kuhn and Lynette Rosebrook distributed 2024-2025 program books. Hostesses for the afternoon were Enright and Marilyn Pahl.

Members continue to provide daily watering and weeding service to the plantings at the Welcome Sign at the north end of the city. Next meeting will be October 15th at the Summerfield Community Building with a program on Fall Deco.
