BG community bands start 16th season Sunday

The Bowling Green Area Community Bands will start its 16th season with a medley of songs that celebrate the musicians that make up the amazing ensemble. An afternoon of music “Featuring…the Band” will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, 503 W. Poe Road.

Under the direction of Catherine Lewis, the band will be playing selections that highlight the wonderful talents within. Some of the musical repertoire will include George and Ira Gershwin’s “Strike Up the Band,” “Celebration in Brass” by Brian Olson, “South of the Border” featuring the band’s percussionists, “Divertimento for Tuba and Band” by David Bobrowitz and “Different Voices” by Rick Kirby.

Soloists include Katie Ferren, tuba; Erin Crawford, piccolo; Brian Bushong, trumpet; Karen Smith, piano; and Teresa Disbrow, clarinet.

BiG Band BG will also be performing with Rob Cintron as conductor.

The concert is free to the public and doors open at 3:30 p.m.
