OREGON — Sophie Mitchell amassed two goals and three assists to guide the Perrysburg girls soccer team in a 9-0 win over Clay at Ted Federici Field inside Clay Memorial Stadium on Monday.
“We worked really well together,” Mitchell said. “I think we were all super unselfish, and we were able to play balls through and finish them really easily.”
The Yellow Jackets (9-3-1, 7-1 NLL) stunned Clay early as Alexis Kaufold put one into the back of the net just 60 seconds in, and Camille Francis added another a little over four minutes later.
Both of those goals were assisted by Mitchell, while Perrysburg peppered the Eagles with 13 more shots over the next 30 minutes, including six on goal.
The Yellow Jackets then punctuated the half with three goals over the final five minutes, including a pair from Emma Ogdahl, the second of which came on a rebound with 1:26 left.
Lauren McConnachie added the other one of those three goals as Perrysburg registered 20 total shots, including 12 on goal, in the first half.
“We moved the ball well and everybody worked together,” Perrysburg coach Jorge Diaz said. “We made it difficult for them to even create anything and that gave us opportunities to score. We’ve been working on finishing, and we needed to kind of make a point.”
The offensive showcase continued over the final 40 minutes.
Mitchell got things started, delivering goals with 34:16 and 23:01 left to push the lead to seven.
Francis buried her second goal with 14:14 remaining, and Kaufold stamped the day’s scoring with her second just 1:22 later.
In total, four Yellow Jackets scored multiple goals including Kaufold, Francis, Mitchell and Ogdahl.
Outside of Mitchell’s three assists, Perrysburg got a pair of helpers from McConnachie along with one apiece from Kendyl Mefferd, Adyson Brown and Lexi McGuire.
Perrysburg finished the night with 39 shots, including 23 on goal.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets allowed just one shot, which was delivered high and over the crossbar off a free kick with 24:01 remaining in the second half.
“I was very excited because we didn’t allow a shot on goal,” Diaz said. “That’s big, and that means that we’re keeping the possession.”
