Jordan Musgrave has been chosen to serve as Bowling Green’s First Ward council representative.
Musgrave was selected during a meeting of the Wood County Democratic Party’s Central Committee on Sept. 17.
He will fill the seat most recently held by Democrat Damon Sherry.
Sherry resigned Sept. 3. Musgrave will serve out the remainder of Sherry’s term, which ends in 2026.
“I think that Jordan will be a great addition to city council,” said Zach Schmidt, chair of the Wood County Democratic Party, in a recent interview, noting that Musgrave is the current president of BGO Pride and also a union member. “They’ll be representing two underrepresented viewpoints on council that I think will make them a really strong council member.”
Schmidt noted that two candidates sought the seat in addition to Musgrave: Julie Broadwell and Rose Drain. The Central Committee First Ward members who voted on the matter were Mark Hollenbaugh, who also serves as council president, Geoff Howes, and Lola Flick. Schmidt said that Hollenbaugh and Flick voted for Musgrave, and Howes voted for Drain, giving Musgrave the majority.
Musgrave is slated to be sworn in during an upcoming council meeting.
Sherry, who utilizes they/them pronouns, was elected as First Ward council member in 2023. They resigned the seat after taking a position with the Wood County Board of Elections. Per the Ohio Revised Code, the Wood County Democratic Party had 45 days to find a replacement for them.
