MILLBURY — The Lake girls soccer team remained undefeated on Saturday, grinding out their sixth shutout of the season in a 4-0 non-league win over Wauseon at Lake Community Stadium.

“I think we’ve been really strong,” Lake senior Adeana Cowell said. “We’ve improved a lot throughout the season, and we just keep growing more and more as the season goes on.”

The Flyers peppered Wauseon (1-8) with 26 shots, including 16 on goal as the Indians got 12 saves from Madison Strain.

Lake’s leading scorer, Savannah Little, had a match-best 10 shots, including four on goal.

Little took a through ball from Brooke Wiley midway through the first half, outran her defender and put the game’s first goal into the net with 19:01 left.

She then added another from Wiley with 13:40 remaining to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead at the break.

“We have some work to do in the midfield, gotta work on finishing,” Lake coach Lauren Colangelo said. “We’ve been working on that all week. We’re getting ourselves in good positions and have had good opportunities, we just have to make sure we find the back of the net.”

Wiley produced her third assist of the day just 1:05 into the second half when her crossing shot was converted by Riley Byington.

If that wasn’t enough, Wiley decided to join the scoring, depositing an unassisted goal with 26:32 remaining.

“Our building throughout the midfield has really gotten strong,” Cowell said. “Our passes have been connected more, and we’ve just been taking every shot we can get.”

The Flyers had 11 different players with at least one shot, including nine with at least one on frame. Aside from Little, Wiley put all four of her shots on goal, while Morgann Blandin, Adeana Cowell and Allie Byington each had multiple shots.

Lake’s Lauren Tobias made two saves in goal.

The Flyers (9-0-3) will hit the road for three straight, beginning with an NBC tilt against Rossford on Wednesday.

“I think we’ve just been on an uphill climb,” Colangelo said. “If we keep going in that direction, good things will happen.”

Lake boys get road win

Travis Merrill scored four times to lead the Lake boys soccer team to a 6-0 win over Pettisville on the road Saturday.

Mason Sneed and Brady Hayward also scored for Lake (9-1-1).

Sneed, Merrill, Greyson Reed and Evan Barta each recorded one assist for the Flyers, who also got three saves from Mitchell Maguire in goal.

Lake will be back in action at Rossford on Wednesday before concluding the regular season with four straight at home.
