Bowling Green Police were dispatched Thursday to the 700 block of East Gypsy Lane Road for a report of a possible explosive being found.

When officers arrived around 11:33 p.m., they spoke with the resident who stated that they found what could possibly be an RPG or explosive ordnance, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The caller stated that they had been cleaning out an abandoned storage unit at the 1700 block of East Wooster Street when they located the grey metal ordnance. The caller drove the ordnance home and was advised by a friend to leave it outside and call the police, according to the report.

As officers checked the ordnance, it appeared that it could be real and a serial number was visible. BGPD then contacted the Toledo Police Department to request the bomb squad, according to the report.

The bomb squad arrived around 1:15 a.m. As the squad looked at the ordnance, they stated that it was possible that the round was still active but felt comfortable that it was stable since it had been moved multiple times, according to the report.

The bomb squad collected the ordnance and transported it to a secure facility for proper disposal.
