Teen arrested for theft of cash box

A teenager has been arrested for theft.

Bowling Green Police were dispatched Saturday to the 100 block of North Main Street for a cash register theft.

When officers arrived around 4:07 p.m., they spoke with a staff member, who stated that a Black male with a black shirt carried a black box out of the store around 3:37 p.m., according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The employee told officers that $610 was missing.

Officers observed the male on downtown video hastily leave the store and walked toward the 100 block of East Court Street. The man then enters a vehicle at the nearby gas station. Two other males were in the vehicle, according to the report.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and briefly visited a handful of the nearby businesses before returning. The vehicle, a silver Chevy Sedan, then left the gas station and exited westbound onto East Wooster Street, according to the report.

Officers were able to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Officers smelled an odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle, according to the report.

A jar of marijuana was found on the front passenger side floorboard of the vehicle. The black box was found in the vehicle with all $610.

The male, who was 17, was arrested for theft and was taken to the juvenile detention center. The other males were released.
