BG’s VFW post is best in the nation

Paul C. Ladd VFW Post 1148-Bowling Green has been named the 2024 Outstanding National Community Service Post of the Year.

The award, given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, recognizes the post’s commitment to the communities as shown by its strong service efforts.

To achieve this honor, the VFW evaluates its Posts community service impact which is analyzed using dollars donated to host and organize community service events, hours volunteered and milage driven while focusing on the unique projects and service initiatives hosted and sponsored throughout the year. The top Post in each of the VFW’s four conferences are recognized at the VFW National Convention with a special plaque and citation,and will receive a street sign to proudly display at their Post home.

The convention was recently held in Kansas City, Missouri.

“The Outstanding National Community Service Post of the Year Award stands as a testament to the exceptional dedication and selflessness displayed by our members,” said VFW National Commander Duane Sarmiento. “The VFW is honored to recognize and celebrate VFW Post 1148, who exemplifies this mission in both word and deed day in and day out. Their commitment to community service should serve as an inspiration to us all.”

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is the nation’s largest and oldest major war veterans organization. Founded in 1899, the congressionally chartered VFW is comprised entirely of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. With more than 1.4 million VFW and Auxiliary members located in nearly 6,000 Posts worldwide, the nonprofit veterans service organization is proud to proclaim “no one does more for veterans” than the VFW, which is dedicated to veterans’ service, legislative advocacy, and military and community service programs.
