Take in a movie at the senior center

The Wood County Committee on Aging will present motion pictures through the month of May. All will be shown at 1 p.m. at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St.

Five romance/ romantic comedy motion pictures Wednesdays.

May 8: “You’ve Got Mail” (1998), features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan representing both the little and big ends of the book-selling industry with humorous but predictable results.

May 15: “Save the Last Dance for Me” (2001), is a romance starring Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas that focuses on how opposites attract and then must find ways to resolve differences.

May 22: “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in a set-up romance created by Hank’s son who wants his dad to find a partner.

May 29: “Serendipity” (2001), starring John Kusack and Kate Beckinsale, is the story of two individuals who meet, lose track of one another, and then spend years trying to reunite with each other.

Five motion pictures, hosted by Kris Eridon, will be shown on Thursdays as offerings for “Thursday Theater” matinees.

This week, the movie is “To Catch a Thief,” a 1955 romantic thriller starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, as a retired jewel thief works to prove his innocence.

May 9: “A Royal Night Out,” a 2015 semi-historical romantic drama starring Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley. Set on VE Day in 1945, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret ditch their security detail and enjoy a celebratory night of freedom, excitement, and danger in London.

May 16: “Colossus: The Forbin Project,” a 1970 sci-fi thriller starring Eric Braeden and Susan Clark. It’s a chilling warning about turning too much control over to supercomputers and A.I.

May 23: “Roman Holiday,” the 1953 romance which launched Audrey Hepburn’s career (Best Actress winner), also starring Gregory Peck. A bored princess escapes her guardians and finds romance in Rome.

May 30: “Darkest Hour,” the 2017 historical drama portraying how Churchill orchestrated the Miracle of Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4, 1940. Gary Oldman (Best actor) stars as Churchill and Lily James as his assistant.

“How about a Movie?” View and discuss seldom-seen classic motion pictures Fridays. Movies will be of all genres including war, westerns, drama, action, adventure, comedy, film noir, science-fiction, documentary, romance, crime, seasonal, and musicals, from the golden age of Hollywood 1930 -1990.

Friday: “PT 109” (1963) (biography/drama), with Cliff Robertson, Robert Culp, Ty Hardin

May 10: “The Girl Most Likely” (1957) (comedy/musical), with Jane Powell, Cliff Robertson, Keith Andes

May 17: “The Best Man” (1964) (drama), with Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Edie Adams

May 24: “Man Without a Country” (1973) (adventure/drama), with Cliff Robertson, Beau Bridges, Peter Strauss

May 31: “Picnic” (1955) (drama), with William Holden, Kim Novak, Betty Field, Cliff Robertson
