MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University hockey team (13-19-1 overall, 11-11-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) fell to Northern Michigan (11-4-6, 9-10-4 CCHA), 4-1 on Friday night in the Berry Events Center.

The Wildcats got on the board first, late in the first period and added two more in the second period. Dalton Norris scored a power-play goal in the third period, not soon after Northern Michigan scored an empty-net goal to secure the 4-1 win.

“The first period was a lot of special teams,” BGSU coach Ty Eigner said. “Northern Michigan made a play on the power play and had gotten the lead.

“We played a pretty good second period but made two mistakes late and Northern Michigan capitalized. Our guys pushed in the third and made a game of it.”

Kristof Papp scored the first goal of the night at 15:14 in the first period. Papp was dished the puck on the doorstep of the Falcons net and pushed it past Moore for a power-play goal.

Isack Bandu kept the scoring going for Northern Michigan at 6:00 in the second period. Bandu passed by the Falcons defense and was able to shoot the puck to the far post for a 2-0 lead.

Grant Slukynsky scored at 4:39 in the third period on a fast break down the ice, in a 3-on-1. Slukynsky was faced by Moore and a Falcon defenseman and was able to shoot it into the back of the Falcons goal for a 3-0 lead.

Dalton Norris scored at 14:15 in the third period, to get the Falcons on the board. Norris finished a passing sequence, starting with Fyten passing it to Parker and finding Norris open in the left face-off circle to finish the job. The Falcons tightened the score 3-1.

Norris scored his fifth goal of the season and seventh career. Norris’ goal also came as power-play goal, recording as his third of the season and fifth on his career.

Assists on the Norris goal came from Eric Parker and Seth Fyten. Parker recorded his seventh assist of the season and 22nd on his career. Fyten tallied his sixth assist on the season and eighth career.

Connor Eddy scored an empty-net goal at 3:59 in the third period to secure the win for the Wildcats.

Bowling Green will look to split the weekend tomorrow (Mar. 2) in Berry Events Center, puck drop set for 6:07 p.m.
