Weather alert: Freezing rain expected overnight

Wood County is expecting steady freezing rain overnight transitioning to rain around 7-8 a.m. Tuesday.

Ice accumulation of 0.10”- 0.20” can be expected by 8 a.m. Temperatures will increase to the 40s Tuesday with rain continuing to about midnight. Visibility is expected to diminish tomorrow, as fog will likely be through the later part of the day.

Concerns:

• Ice accumulation can cause trees to fall on buildings and power lines creating power outages.

• Roadways may have a layer of ice build-up.

• Drainage may be impacted due to snow/iced covered sewer grates causing localized flooding.

Recommendations:

• Keep cell phones charged.

• Keep working flashlights in your bedroom.

• Prepare for power outages.

• When walking outside, expect that concrete, asphalt and solid surfaces will be icy. (Emergency rooms tend to be busy on icy days).
