Joan Balmoria Mathews, 89 of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 13, 2024.
Joan was born in Providence, RI on July 14, 1934 to the late Jean and Bernice (Kitty) Carle.
Joan was one of six siblings: Bernice/Barb Dahl, John Carle (Rosalinda), Charles/Skip Carle, Mary Carle, and Michael (Shiela) Carle.
She graduated from Ohio State University in 1958 where she met her husband Nicolas E. Balmoria. They were married on May 30, 1959 at St. Bernards Church in Akron, Ohio. They were married for 32 years raising six children in Sherwood, Ohio.
Joan was an avid reader, involved with her church, scouting activities with her children and cared deeply for her family. In 1964, she and her husband started the John F. Kennedy school in the Philippines. After the death of her first husband, Nicolas, she married Glen Mathews, on July 7, 2009 in Worthington, KY. They were married for 4 years.
She is survived by her six children, Nicolas J. (Chere) Balmoria, Robert Balmoria (Nora), Cecilio (Sandra) Balmoria, Michael (Polly) Balmoria, Gerard (Anja) Balmoria, and Stella Balmoria. Seven grandchildren: Nicolas I. Balmoria, Kaylyn (Greg) Levy, Carlo Balmoria, John Paul (Amanda) Balmoria, Anthony (Nikki) Balmoria, Patrick Balmoria, and Fredrick Balmoria and one great-grandchild: Dakota Babcock.
Joan was preceded in death by her husbands Nicolas E. Balmoria and Glen Mathews, sister Barb Dahl, and brother John Carle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W. Wooster St.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
