Jackets second, Bobcats third at NLL swim meet

The Perrysburg swimming and diving team placed second to Anthony Wayne in both the boys and girls Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division meet at the Bowling Green State University Student Recreation Center’s Cooper Pool Saturday.

In the boys meet, AW scored 315 points, followed by Perrysburg (304), Findlay (262), Sylvania Northview (140) and Toledo Whitmer (114).

In the girls meet, AW scored 335, followed by Perrysburg (283), Northview (272), Findlay (189), and Whitmer (69).

The Bowling Green boys and girls teams both placed third in the NLL Cardinal Division. Fremont Ross (366) won the boys title, followed by Sylvania Southview (222), BG (217), Napoleon (171), Clay (159) and Springfield (18).

The Cardinal Division girls meet was won by Ross (345), followed by Napoleon (288), BG (249), Southview (127), Springfield (99), and Clay (61).

Perrysburg senior Ewan Fisher won the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:49.45 to beat second place AW sophomore Max Gottschalk (1:54.76) by over five seconds.

Fisher also won the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:00.54 to defeat second place AW junior Logan Bublick (5:09.94) by over nine seconds.

Perrysburg freshman Parker Bucko won the 200 intermediate medley in a time of 2:04.16 to beat second place AW senior Aaron He (2:04.21) by 1/20th of a second.

Bucko also won the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 58.15, while his teammate, Perrysburg senior Fernando Garcia placed second in 1:00.48.

Perrysburg sophomore Trevor Madigan won the one-meter diving championship with a score of 48.3.7 to defeat second place Findlay junior Brian Guthrie (350.05).

Perrysburg senior Seth Merriman won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.96 to defeat second place He (1:03.89).

The Perrysburg boys 400 freestyle relay team also won an NLL title, finishing in 3:28.41 to beat a second place team from AW (3:32.73) by over four seconds. In addition, Perrysburg boys champions included the 200-yard medley relay team. (1:46.32).

Perrysburg girls champions included the 200-yard medley relay team (1:57.37) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.72).

Perrysburg freshman Paige Burkey won the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 59.6 seconds, just over a second behind the NLL record set by Allie Barasch in 2023 (58.51). AW sophomore Cami Crandell was second in 1:06.03.

Burkey also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.33, just over a second off the NLL record set by Madeline Blakely (57.85) in 2019. Findlay senior Taylor Hudson was runner-up in 1:02.24.

Perrysburg junior Claire Gerken won the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.95 to defeat second place AW sophomore Colleen Hildebrand (57.26) by less than one-third of a second.

BG senior Alex Xu won the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 56.72 to defeat second place Ross freshman Logan Garza (57.62) by less than a second.

Xu also finished second in the 100 backstroke and he teamed with Aiden Hildebrand, Carter Hamilton, and Colin Sargent on a 200 freestyle relay team that finished second.

BG senior Ela Ostrowski won the 200-yard freestyle championship in a time of 2:10.35, beating out Ross freshman Layla Mendoza (2:11.83) by over a second.

Ostrowski also won the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:49.55 to beat out second place Napoleon sophomore Mackenzie Spring (6:02.62).

BG senior Maggie Layne won the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:11.94 to defeat second place Ross senior Megan Evans (1:12.88) by less than a second. Layne also finished second in the 200 intermediate medley.

The BG girls 400 freestyle relay team of Layne, Ostrowski, Alayna Mahan and Ella Billiot won the NLL title with a time of 4:02.52, beating a second place team from Napoleon (4:09.65).

Layne, Ostrowski, Mahan and Melanie Long also finished second for the Bobcats’ 200 freestyle relay team.
