Illinois men indicted after I-80 pursuit, escape attempt

Two Illinois men have been indicted after an 18-mile pursuit in a alleged stolen vehicle.

A Wood County grand jury on Aug. 16 indicted co-defendants Michael X. Davis, 19, of Zion, Illinois, and Lerico Lamont Pittman, 18, of Rockford, Illinois.

Both are in jail.

Davis was indicted for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; receiving stolen property; a fourth-degree felony; and possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

On Aug. 2, he reportedly was clocked doing 109 mph in a 70-mph zone on Interstate 80 in Perrysburg Township. He allegedly failed to stop for overhead lights and siren and fled at speeds exceeding 140 mph and passed multiple vehicles on both shoulders of the interstate.

The pursuit lasted approximately 18 miles before two sets of stop sticks were successfully deployed. Davis allegedly slowed down and then exited the vehicle and fled while it was still moving. He ran into a bean field where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The vehicle, a 2017 Lexus which was reportedly stolen, struck the concrete median wall.

A window punch was allegedly found in Davis’ possession.

Pittman was indicted for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; escape, a third-degree felony; aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor; and possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

He was a passenger in the Lexus and was transported to the Bowling Green post of the Ohio Highway Patrol for processing. He allegedly was highly uncooperative, provided false information and attempted to escape custody by utilizing a thumbtack to pick the handcuffs.

While being transported to the jail, he allegedly made multiple threats to patrol personnel and allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the facility when released from incarceration.

A window punch was allegedly found in his possession.
