Eleanor Fern Barnes, 80, of Grand Rapids, Ohio passed away July 29, 2023. She was born November 29, 1942 to the late David and Ruby (Sidle) Gallagher. She married Delmar “Barney” Barnes on June 21, 1997 and he survives in Grand Rapids.
Eleanor loved gardening and won Gardner of the Year for several of her beautiful gardens. She enjoyed collecting anything gingerbread and decorating cakes. She was the queen of hospitality and was always taking care of others by visiting or providing meals. She served as a counselor to battered women. Eleanor was an encourager to many and was always giving. She attended Bethany Baptist Church and loved sharing the word of Jesus and made the most of every day.
Along with her husband of 26 years, Barney, Eleanor is survived by her children Richard E. Morris Jr. “Tinker” (Cassandra) of New Bavaria, Ohio, Robin (Kurt) Kistner of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Rodney (Lesley) Morris of Whitehouse, Ohio, grandchildren Michael Miller, Richard Morris III, Russell Staler, Jacob Kistner, Rachel Fetchik, Robert Mitchell and Amanda Harrington, 9 great-grandchildren and sisters Evelyn Hughs, Sally (Jack) Robinson, Judy (David) Harmon and Diane (Jimmy) Burns.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Theresa, Opal, Barb and Joyce, brother Joe and great-grandchild Axton Harrington.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 3, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 6603 Providence St. Whitehouse, Ohio 43571. Her funeral service will be held on Friday August 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
