Richard C. Downard, 89, of Pemberville, OH, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living in Bowling Green. He was born December 8, 1933 in Tontogany, OH, to Howard and Alberta (Ferguson) Downard. He married Viola Komon on January 29, 1955 in Assumption, OH. Richard and Viola raised 9 children and celebrated over 62 years of marriage, before Viola’s passing in 2017.
Richard worked 50 plus years as a truck driver, his employers included: Nicholson Concrete and Shipper Dispatch. His memberships included: The Teamsters Local #20, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Quick Keyers just to name a few. Richard also enjoyed traveling, motorcycles and canoeing on the Maumee River.
Richard is survived by his children: Elaine (David) Hunter of Arcadia, Dennis Downard of Luckey, Cindy Alvarez of Cygnet, Charlie Badgley of Woodville, Lynda (Tom) Peters of Fostoria, Denise Hunter of Risingsun, David (Lisa) Downard of Elmore, Rod Downard of Marion and Eric (Ronda) Downard of Bowling Green. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- granddaughter. He is also survived by his sisters: Louise, Delores and Beverly. In
addition to his wife Viola, he was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lillian, brothers: Roger, Albert and Russell, grandchildren: Jamie, Antonio, Andrew, Hawke, Anna and son-in-law, Juan Alvarez.
Friends and family will be received from 10-11a.m., with a Memorial Service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, Ohio. Pr. Leroy Sholey will officiate. Interment will be at Pemberville Union Cemetery, Pemberville, Ohio.
