Perrysburg man back in jail after testing positive for fentanyl

Bond has been set at $100,000 for a Perrysburg man indicted for corrupting another with drugs.

Thomas Patterson, 33, appeared for a bond hearing Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

He was taken to jail after he tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl after appearing for arraignment on June 6.

Patterson was indicted in May for corrupting another with drugs, specifically heroin, after causing harm to another man on March 17, 2022.

The offense is a second-degree felony and could result in a prison sentence of up to eight years.

Reger placed Patterson on an own recognizance bond at the arraignment, but after a urine test showed cocaine and fentanyl usage, he was escorted back to the courtroom.

Reger sent him to jail with a $50,000 bond after referring to the deadly danger of using fentanyl.

Patterson posted bond on June 7.

On June 15, he tested positive for fentanyl during a random drug screen, bond was revoked and a statewide warrant was issued.

Patterson was arrested again on June 16.

Defense attorney Adam Houser said Tuesday his client had been admitted to Arrowhead Behavioral Health, has gone through detox and is now clean and sober.

“He’s trying to go into intensive outpatient treatment and keep his job,” Houser said.

Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brian Boos said with two positive fentanyl tests, keeping the defendant in custody is appropriate but the state would not oppose a furlough into an inpatient facility.

Reger set bond at $100,000, and if posted, Patterson must submit to daily drug screens.

Reger said he is willing to allow a furlough into a vivitrol program or inpatient treatment.

Vivitrol is a prescription injectable medicine that is used to prevent a relapse to opioid dependence after opioid detoxification.

Patterson’s next court appearance is June 26.
