Show ‘pride’ at BG rally today

The community is invited to celebrate Pride Month by joining the BGO Pride Association for Rainbow Rally today from noon-6 p.m. at Wooster Green.

Participants are invited to engage with local non-profits and vendors. Non-profits that will be in attendance include: National Alliance on Mental Illness of Wood County, League of Women Voters of Bowling Green, Brown Bag Food Project, the Cocoon, Equitas Health, First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green, Bowling Green Arts Council, Fremont Pride and the NWO LGBTQIA+ Coalition.

Vendors will have candles, baked goods, apparel, jewelry, art and other wares available for purchase. Food will also be available for purchase from Call of the Canyon or by donation through the First Presbyterian Church. Water will be available, including water stations for dogs.

Children’s games and activities will be located along the southern part of Wooster Green.

Stage performances will be held throughout the day in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot. An accompanying American Sign Language interpreter will also be present. A proclamation will be presented by the city at 3 p.m.

Wayne food distribution is Thursday

WAYNE — The monthly food distribution for the Wayne area will be held Thursday from 9-10 a.m at the Wayne Fire Hall, 200 N.Center St.

The food distribution is for those in the 43466 zip area.

Former BG mayor talks about Capitol Hill memories

The Bowling Green Kiwanis will meet on Thursday at the Wood County Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting starts at noon and lunch is available starting at 11:30 a.m.

Dick Edwards, retired mayor of Bowling Green, will talk about “Memories and reflections from my years on Capitol Hill.” He was elected as mayor in 2011 and served for two terms before retiring in 2019. He had a long career in higher education administration beginning with his alma mater, Kent State University. Before joining the staff of Bowling Green State University President Hollis Moore in 1971, Edwards was with the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. He later served as an executive officer with Wright State and East Carolina Universities. He returned to BG in 1994 as the Wood County administrator before retiring in 2000.

Students: Join library’s graphic novel book discussion

Students ages 8 and up are invited to a graphic novel book discussion about some favorite early reader graphic novels at the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St. Discussions are Fridays at 1 p.m. in the Children’s Place.

Copies of graphic novels are available for checkout from the Children’s Place Desk. Read the books and come to discuss these and other graphic novel favorites.

July 21 – “Bird & Squirrel: All Together” by James Burks

Volunteers needed for boardwalk construction

PERRYSBURG — The W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Boardwalk is being reconstructed thanks to a grant from the Country Garden Club.

Volunteer assistance is needed to help park district staff quickly complete the boardwalk and reopen the trail. Tools, materials and instruction are provided.

Volunteer days are throughout June and shifts are from 9-11 a.m. or noon-2 p.m. To register, or for more information, visit wcparks.org/volunteer.
