PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg boys tennis sent three qualifiers to the Northern Lakes League consolation finals Wednesday, and the Yellow Jackets came out with three winners.

At first doubles, Perrysburg senior Niranjan Bhagwat and junior Solomon Lambdin defeated Sylvania Southview’s Keyshav Agnihotri and Max Malinowski, 6-3, 6-3, to earn third place at Perrysburg Tennis Center.

At second doubles, Perrysburg juniors Jack Kreienkamp and Jack Alcroft 6-1, 6-2, defeated Bowling Green senior Jonas Kendrick and sophomore Robert Seiffert in the third-place consolation championship match.

At third singles, Perrysburg sophomore Caleb Stein defeated Southview’s Jashit Singh, 6-3, 6-1, for third place.

“Caleb Stein has been rock solid all season at third singles,” Perrysburg coach Patrick Giammarco said. “He came in third, so he won his match pretty handily.”

The Yellow Jackets were 3-4 in NLL dual matches this season, so the three third place winners helped push them to a fifth-place finish in the final league point standings. It’s been a bit of a rebuilding year as far as varsity experience was concerned for Perrysburg.

“It’s going well. We started a little green at the beginning as far as match play was concerned,” Giammarco said.

“Not a lot of returning varsity members, so when you come back from spring break and have that first week full of league matches it is a little bit tough.

“So, we started a little bit slow, but we are playing as well as we’ve played all season, going into sectionals and into OTCA (Ohio Tennis Coaches Association state team tennis tournament) and into the OHSAA matches.

“From where we were at the beginning of the season, we’ve come a long way,” Giammarco continued.

Perrysburg is led by its first singles player, sophomore Jevin Mullins, and second singles player, junior Aiden Bielefeld.
