ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team picked up the road win on Wednesday against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, capturing a 12-2 final.

The Falcons scored the game’s first run in the first before Oakland evened the tally in the third at 1-1. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Falcons reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs. From there, BGSU scored three runs in the seventh, three in the eighth and another three in the ninth while the bullpen gave up just one run to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Nathan Archer doubled to right center to start the game. Sam Seidel followed with a single through the left side, but Archer was thrown out trying for third. A single from Kyle Gurney put runners at the corners before a wild pitch brought home Seidel for the game’s first run.

Oakland responded with a run in the bottom of the third to knot the game up at 1-1 through three innings played.

Moving to the sixth inning, Adam Fallon began with a single to left. Later in the inning, Jack Krause doubled to right center, putting runners at second and third with one out for BGSU. Ryan Johnston stepped in next and knocked a single to left, scoring both Fallon and Krause to push the Falcons ahead 3-1.

The Falcons added to their lead in the seventh. Gurney drew a walk and stole second with Tyler Ross also walking. Fallon hit his first triple of the season to right center, scoring both Gurney and Ross to stretch the BGSU lead to 5-1.

In the next at-bat, Gavin Ganun grounded out, but it was enough to score Fallon and make it a 6-1 Bowling Green advantage.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Sam Seidel crushed his third home run in the last four games to give BGSU a 7-1 lead.

The two-out rally continued for the Falcons with Gurney reaching on a dropped third strike. Ross singled to right, putting runners at the corners for a Nathan Rose single that scored Gurney. The inning ended with Rose being caught stealing, but the rundown lasted long enough for Ross to score and make it a 9-1 lead.

Oakland added a run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the score to 9-2.

The Falcons responded with three more runs in the ninth. Fallon began the inning with a walk followed by a pinch hit hit by pitch to Parker Hydrick. Krause also walked to load the bases for a fielder’s choice grounder by Johnston, scoring Fallon.

Nathan Archer drew a walk as well to load the bases again. Another walk, this time to Seidel, brought home Hydrick. The last run crossed on a Gurney sacrifice fly to score Johnston and push the score to 12-2.
