BGSU volleyball signs defensive specialist Marcon

Bowling Green State University volleyball and head coach Danijela Tomic announced the signing of Benedetta “Benny” Marcon on Wednesday. Marcon, a 5-foot-6 defensive specialist, will join the Falcons from Spinea, Italy.

“We are thrilled to welcome Benedetta to BGSU and our program,” Tomic said. “She is a dynamic libero with solid serve receive skills and quickness who plays with a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm. Moreover, through the recruiting process, it was apparent that Benedetta possesses all the other intangibles we look for in all our student-athletes that will enhance our championship team culture. She comes from a great family, is an outstanding student who thrives academically, and is driven to be the best she can be on the court and in the classroom.”

Over the last six years, Marcon has played for Synergy Volley Venezia as well as the U16 Italian National Team. During the 2021-22 season, Marcon aided her team to a second place finish in the provincial phase and advanced to the quarterfinals of the regional phase. In 2020-21, Marcon paced her team to a first place finish in the C League, receiving a promotion to the B2 league. She also competed in the U19 National Championship, reaching the semifinals of the provincial phase.

In both 2018-19 and 2019-20, Marcon was the only libero selected to play in the Trofeo Campesan with the U16 National Team. She was also part of the Italian Championship team at the Trofeo delle Regioni 2019, playing with the Veneto Regional Team. Additionally during the 2018-19 season, Marcon led her team to a first place finish in the first division, being promoted to D League. The U16 team finished second at the provincial phase, third at the regional phase and third at the MOMA Winter Cup 2018 Tournament.

“I chose BGSU because I think it is the best solution for me,” Marcon said. “It is a well-rated university and, since I have not yet decided what I’m majoring in, it has all the majors which I am interested in. Furthermore, it has a good volleyball program. I watched some matches and I believe that the team can keep doing good things and even better. Last, but not least, I appreciate coach Tomic’s approach and I hope her knowledge of both volleyball schools, American and Europeans, will accelerate my integration inside the team.”
