Devils hit three homers in 8-0 win over Bobcats

HOLLAND — Bowling Green pitching held state ranked Springfield scoreless in four out of six innings, but one crooked number gave the Blue Devils an 8-0 Northern Lakes League win Tuesday.

Springfield, ranked third in the first Division I state poll, scored one run in the bottom of the second inning to break a scoreless tie, but then exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning.

BG pitcher Zoe Ziems was cruising along after three innings, keeping the Blue Devils’ batters at bay, but she finished by striking out three, walking one, allowing seven hits, but of eight runs, only three were earned.

Plus, the Blue Devils hit three home runs, one each by Ava Littin, Kenya Crowley and Mady Yackee. Springfield also had the help of five BG errors, while the Blue Devils were perfect in the field.

Meghan Kramp pitched two innings of relief for the Bobcats, striking out four, walking three, and allowing just one hit and no runs while facing 11 batters.

Yackee started in the circle for Springfield, striking out eight, walking none, allowing three hits and no runs through five innings, and Callee Chappetta closed the final two innings, striking out two, walking none, and allowing one hit.

Ziems led BG at the plate, going 2-for-3, and Samantha Trimpey and Makenna Oates had base hits.

For Springfield, Kierstin Wilkin was 2-for-4, Cam Eckhart doubled, and Camryn Hall and Hannah Schlachter had base hits. Olivia Rompf had two stolen bases and Yackee had a sacrifice bunt.
