Bonfiglio leads Eagles to 8-7 comeback win over Genoa

PEMBERVILLE — On a 2-and-2 count, Jarod Bonfiglio drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a base hit as Eastwood defeated Genoa, 8-7, in a wild Northern Buckeye Conference baseball game Tuesday.

It capped a four-run inning as the Eagles trailed 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles, ranked second in the Division III state poll, stay unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the league with the win, which was postponed to Tuesday after cold weather and snow Monday.

Bonfiglio also got the win on the mound, striking out two, walking one and allowing two runs and seven hits over six innings.

Jackson Bauer led Eastwood, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in a run in the third hitting a double in the seventh inning. He finished the game with four RBIs.

Case Boos was 3-for-4, Kadyn Donnell had a double and two RBIs, and Tristan Schuerman had a base hit and sacrifice fly for the Eagles.

The Eagles also had 10 stolen bases, including three by Boos, two apiece by Schuerman and Colton Woodward, and one each by Jackson Bauer, Isaac Reynolds and Andrew Badenhop.

In addition, five times Eastwood batters were hit by Genoa pitchers — Woodward was hit twice, and Reynolds, Badenhop and Jordan Pickerel were hit one time each.

Ethan Rapp started on the mound for the Eagles, but the Comets scored one run in the first and added five more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. They outhit the Eagles, 9-8 and each team had two errors.
