BGSU rally comes up short in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University Falcons (6-14, 0-8 MAC) dropped a close road match on Sunday, falling to the Buffalo Bulls (19-6, 5-3 MAC) by a score of 4-3.

The Falcons won the doubles point to start the day, taking wins at No. 1 and 2. Ioanna Tsadari and Eloise Saraty were efficient in their 6-3 win at the top spot, then Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman clinched the point with a thrilling 7-6 (2) victory.

With their win, Tsadari and Saraty improve to 9-4 in doubles this spring, while Saraty maintains her team lead in combined victories with 27. The duo shares the team lead in doubles wins at 13. Furness and Neuman’s triumph gave Furness her 20th win as a Falcon, while Neuman notched her 45th career victory.

Furness earned her 21st win shortly after, taking a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. This marked her 12th singles win of the season, ranking second on the team. Also earning a singles win was Saraty, who rebounded from an opening-set loss to defeat Azra Deniz Comlek, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2. Saraty has a 10-3 record when playing No. 2, and team-best 14 total singles wins this season.

The Falcons close the 2022-23 campaign with a pair of home matches. On Friday, Bowling Green hosts Western Michigan. The season concludes with the Battle of I-75 on Sunday with BGSU welcoming UT. Both matches begin at 1 p.m. Location is dependent on weather, the matches will either be played at the Perrysburg Tennis Center or Keefe Courts.
