Wooster Street paving delayed until fall in BG

Planned paving on East Wooster Street is going to be delayed into the early fall, and will not be finished before Bowling Green State University move-in, as the city had hoped.

Officials were recently informed of the delay by the paving contractor who was awarded the project.

The new projected start date is Sept. 19, with an anticipated completion date in October. The contract completion date for this project is October.

During last week’s Bowling Green Council meeting, Public Service Director Joe Fawcett said the contractor notified the city of the issue late last week, and said the delay stems from issues with the asphalt mix and mix design for the project, as well as getting the mix approved by both the Ohio Department of Transportation and the city engineer.

Fawcett noted the new start date for the project is after fall semester move-in for BGSU, and that “the later date does avoid some of the busier times at the end of the summer and beginning of the fall,” such as the Black Swamp Arts Festival and the tractor pull.

According to the release, East Wooster is planned to be repaved from just west of the railroad tracks to Campbell Hill Road.

During this work, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction with intermittent closure of drive approaches, intersections, and pedestrian crossings.
