Mark Hayes

Mark Hayes, 63, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 10, 2019 at his home.
He was born on October 18, 1955 to John and Mary Alice (Kreisheimer) Hayes. On July 2, 1983, he married
the love of his life Mary Patricia “Patty” Chill.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Hayes of Tiffin; son, Thomas (Erin) Hayes of Troy, Ohio; daughter, Mary
Kate (fiancé, Jacki Kunzler) Hayes of Tiffin; brother, John T. (Nique) Hayes of Massachusetts; and
sisters, Michele (Malcolm) Marchman of CO, Sally (Kent) Makulinski of Elmore and Melissa (Bill) Rinker
of Pemberville; dozens of nieces and nephews who he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark graduated in 1974 from Bowling Green High School and in 1980 from Bowling Green State University. In
1989, Mark and his family moved to Tiffin from Bowling Green and he worked for many years in banking. He
currently worked at North Central Ohio Educational Service Center, working with students at the Old Fort
Elementary Bettsville Campus and served as President on Tiffin City Council.
Mark was appointed to the City Council in September of 1999 and was re-elected for three terms. He was
chairman of the Finance Committee and served as council’s representative to Seneca Regional Planning
Commission.
Mark was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, co-chaired the
festival for years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #608. He coached Little League
Baseball, Calvert and Bettsville softball and was the voice of the Calvert Seneca’s, announcing
volleyball, football, basketball and other special events.
Mark was an Ohio State fan but after decades of convincing from The Chill’s became an avid Notre Dame
fan, enjoyed golfing, traveling, hiking, even reaching the summit of Mt. Elbert in Colorado, walks with
his wife and granddogs, Jackson and Rocky and loved being outdoors. He volunteered at St. Francis Farms
and gardening at The Frost Parkway.
Mark was passionate about the City of Tiffin, was very caring, positive and always had a smile.
His Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m.. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will begin 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will be at a later
date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at HoffmannGottfried-Mack
Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian
Wake Service will begin at 1:30 p.m.
