BGSU College of Music offers Summer Institute
Bowling Green State University is again sponsoring its Summer Music Institute is open for registration.
Presented by the College of Musical Arts, the institute features seven weeklong sessions during which
students will work with BGSU music faculty and guest artists in a college setting. Courses for session
one, June 15-20, are: Double Reed Camp, Recording Camp and Flute Camp.
Courses for session two, June 22-27 are: Brass Camp and String Camp.
Courses for session three, July 6- 11, are: Super Sax Camp and the Vocal Arts Camp.
Also, on July 12, high school students and adults can learn to incorporate acting with singing, hone
audition skills, and take part in a special improvisation session with cast members of "Broadway’s
Next H!t Musical." That night at 7 Broadway’s Next H!t Musical crew will improvise an wards show
based on hit song suggestions from the audience in Donnell Theatre.
Summer Institute students may commute to camp or stay on campus during the week. No audition is required.

Bird art on exhibit in Toledo
TOLEDO – "In Fine Feather: Birds, Art & Science" opens today in the Toledo Museum of
Art’s Gallery 18.
The exhibition, which continues through July 6, chronicles the intersection of natural science and art in
the pursuit of describing and identifying birds, from a medieval treatise on falconry to John James
Audubon’s Birds of America and today’s field guide.
The free show features 45 works by Audubon, Alexander Wilson, John Gould and Roger Tory Peterson.
The oldest piece is a reproduction of a 13th-century manuscript on falconry that is often cited as the
earliest illustrated book about birds.
Five watercolors by Peterson recently acquired by the museum will be on view for the first time.
In related programming, the Museum and the Nature Conservancy of Ohio will present an Inside/Outside

Wallace De Pue compositions for voice win contest prizes
Wallace De Pue, Sr., of Bowling Green, has been notified that two of his choral compositions have been
honored in the C7 international composition contest.
"Why Do I Remember Christmas?" was honored as a work yet to have its premier while and
"Hold My Hand," a jubilee arrangement was honored in the category for already performed works.
Winning compositions will be placed in the C7 Conductor’s Marketplace, which attracts as 6,000 choral
directors from the United States and Canada to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May to inspect choral works
recommended by a C7 contest jury.
Irish painter visits Toledo
TOLEDO – Renowned Irish abstract artist Sean Scully will appear in the Toledo Museum of Art’s Masters
Series on May 1 at 6 p.m. on May 1 in the Peristyle.
Scully’s paintings of bars, blocks and stripes have earned him an international reputation. His work
resides in the permanent collections of major museums around the world, including the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Tate Gallery, London and the National Gallery of Australia. His Ookbar, a
large-scale, hand-painted canvas from 1993-94, was acquired by the Toledo Museum of Art in 2012.
The artist will discuss his work and inspiration during a free talk. "He has a capacity for talking
about abstract art that opens people’s eyes," said Director Brian Kennedy, who authored an
examination of Scully’s work called "Sean Scully: The Art of the Stripe" in 2008.
