The New York Voices are returning to Bowling Green State University next year for the fifth New
York Voices Jazz Camp starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 10.As in previous years students, some
from next door others from across the globe, will gather to learn all about the fine points and joy of the
art of jazz vocals.The internationally renowned ensemble of Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinhan and
Kim Nazarian has made the campus a home away from home. One member Kim Nazarian teaches here part time,
another Peter Eldridge has family in Perrysburg. And the ensemble as a whole has attracted many fans through
their performances at the camp as well as last year’s Festival Series show on campus.During the daytime the
camp is devoted to teaching. The more than 70 students, from teens through senior citizens, including some
from Australia, Japan, Serbia, Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy, get both private tutelage and
extensive ensemble training as well as classes in theory and improvisation.Teachers include all the Voices
as well professional collaborators: arranger and conductor Greg Jasperse, vocalist Rosana Eckert, arranger,
trombonist and percussionist Jay Ashby with BGSU faculty Chris Buzzelli and Morgen Stiegler and BGSU grad
Doug Neel.At night the faculty demonstrates the art of jazz, and students get a chance to show what they’ve
learned.Starting Monday, there’s a concert each night at 8, all in Bryan Recital Hall in the Moore Musical
Arts Center on campus.Concerts are:• Monday: The BGSU Jazz Singers directed by Buzzelli, Stiegler, Jasperse
and Eckert. Free.• Tuesday: Solo sets by Meader, vocals and saxophone, and Eldridge, vocals and piano. $5.•
Wednesday: Campers perform. Free.• Thursday: Solo sets by Kinhan and Nazarian. $5.• Friday: Campers perform.
Free.• Saturday: New York Voices. $15.
