‘Skin’ marked by Visceral action & raw dialogue

Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film will present an Elsewhere season
production of "Skin" by Naomi Iizuka on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Eva Marie Saint
Theatre."Skin" is a full-length play loosely based on Georg Buechner’s Woyzeck in which a troubled
young man whose life is consumed with delusions has a surreal encounter with his girlfriend that turns
deadly. Iizuka focuses on the story of Jones, portrayed by Jeffrey Sneed, a man struggling to maintain a
complex web of personal and professional relationships. After suspecting his girlfriend, Mary (Angenette
Spalink), of cheating on him, Jones is forced to confront the reality he has battled to suppress with
chilling consequences.Originally produced in 1995 at Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, author Naomi Iizuka
uses poetic language and syntax to express complicated human relationships and interactions.Directors and
choreographers Slade Billew and Angenette Spalink, bring diverse movement and performance backgrounds to
this production.Combining elements of martial arts, dance, and physical theatre, they create a production
that uses visceral movement to ignite Iizuka’s raw dialogue for a unique theatre experience not to be
missed.Due to violence and strong language, viewer discretion is advised. Also in the cast are: Erin E.
Williams, Sonya Mandeville, Nate Summers and Jeremiah Kowalski.
