On April 10, 12 Elmwood FFA members
traveled to Sentinel Career Center near Tiffin to participate in the third annual Northwestern Skills
Classic contest.The top seven individual scores were used from the chapter to compile a team score which
resulted in Elmwood ranking second overall.This event allowed contestants to compete in two of 15
different areas and demonstrate their abilities in that area. Ranking high for Elmwood was freshman Noah
Smith, who placed first in assembly procedures, and second in personal finance. Joining Smith as an area
winner was freshman Alisha Borders who ranked first in meat vut identification. Borders additionally
competed in painting and ladder safety where she ranked fourth. Another area winner was freshman Hadden
Rose in commercial walk behind mower operation while he also ranked third in aquarium management.Several
team members earned runner-up honors. Sophomore Nathan Ramsey was second in small engine parts
identification, and tree transplanting. Also ranking second in the area of tree transplanting was
sophomore Kodi Mercer. Mercer placed third in small engines parts identification. Kylee Smith (a
sophomore) found success in meat cut identification where she earned runner-up honors. Senior Lincoln
Young competed in flower and vegetable identification and placed second. He also competed in painting
and ladder safety where he placed third.Freshman Liyah Love represented the team in job interview, where
she additionally earned runner-up honors. Freshman Kyle Frame represented the chapter in both hand
lawnmowing and commercial walk-behind mower operation. He ranked seventh in hand mowing and sixth in
walk behind. Freshman Taylar Olea competed in animal care where she placed sixth.Other chapter
participants included Emily Tracy in tree transplanting where she and partner Kylee Smith placed third.
Jarrett Blevins performed double duty by competing in natural resources I.D. where he placed 10th and
fifth in assembly procedures.
