UT concert to benefit ailing pianist Claude Black

TOLEDO – A concert to benefit Toledo jazz pianist Claude Black will be concert Jan.
31 at 8 p.m. in the University of Toledo Center for Performing Arts Recital
Hall.
Black is an active jazz performer and teacher, including at the University of Toledo.
He has recently suffered severe medical setbacks and is unable to perform.
Among the musicians slated to perform is jazz legend Jon Hendricks, who also teaches
at UT. The UTJazz faculty and several others in the community, including Jeff
Halsey, Ron Brooks, George Davidson and Hendricks organized the benefit.
Gunnar Mossblad, director of the UT Jazz Studies program, said of Black: "Claude
our jazz pianist and friend, has for decades given all of us in the greater
Toledo area, and the world, beautiful music and so much of his generous spirit
…. Like so many of our aging jazz masters, Claude simply does not have the
financial means to cover these sudden expenses."
Tickets are $3 for students and seniors and $5 for the general public with all
proceeds benefiting Black.
