Architect talks about BIG ideas

Imagine living in a building where you could ride your bike up to your 10th floor
apartment and back down on a looping ramp. Now under construction, the 8 House
in Copenhagen, Denmark, was designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), of
Copenhagen and New York City.
Audiences are invited to hear from BIG architect Thomas Christoffersen when he speaks
today at 7 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater at Bowling Green
State University as part of the Architecture Lecture Series.
A 6 p.m. reception with cash bar will be held in the Sky Bank Room before the talk.

Architecture instructor Jon Stevens has long admired the work of BIG and was
instrumental in bringing Christoffersen, who is now in the firm’s New York
office, to campus.
"This lecture is a great opportunity for the students of BGSU to have one of the
leading architecture firms in the world on campus for a talk," Stevens
said. "It provides them learning possibilities and exposure that they other
wise may not have had the opportunity to have.
Lectures such as this from Thomas Christoffersen helps provide inspiration and
motivation to the students and offers a different perspective than that of the
current faculty base at BGSU."
BIG is a group of architects, designers and thinkers operating within the fields of
architecture, urbanism, research and development.
The firm has created a reputation for completing buildings that are as innovative as
they are cost- and resource-conscious.
The firm placed first in six international competitions in 2009, winning for projects
such as the Tallinn Town Hall in Estonia, Kaufhaus Kanal in Germany and the
Shenzhen Energy Mansion in China. Christoffersen has worked on every notable
project.
His talk is sponsored by American Institute of Architects – Toledo, the BGSU
Association for Interior Design, the Department of Architecture and the College
of Technology.
