recipient of the Solo Exhibition Award of the 93rd Toledo Area Artists
Exhibition in 2011.
"Leslie Adams: Drawn from Life," opens Friday in Gallery 18, features a new
body of approximately 20 works that incorporate Old Master painting compositions
and drawing techniques with a contemporary portrayal of memory and
autobiography.
The exhibit continues through Jan. 13.
"While Adams is known for her commissioned work with politicians and prominent
citizens, we wanted to focus on a different side of her," said Amy Gilman,
associate director of the Museum, exhibition organizer and curator of
contemporary art. "This show premieres an almost entirely new body of work
– one that highlights her charcoal drawings and focuses on Adams’ biography and
memories of people and places who have influenced her work."
As a young girl Adams attended art classes at the museum. Some of her work conveys
memories of TMA – including the Cloister and museum classrooms – and its
