Artist exhibits, teaches botanical illustration
A reception for the exhibit of work by Deborah Kopka "Inspired Elegance: The
Botanical Illustrations" will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in Library
House Antiques and Arts, 24122 Front St., Grand Rapids.
The exhibit continues through April 6.
Kopka will also be presenting workshops in botanical illustration at River House
Arts, 115 W. Front St, Perrysburg.
The class on drawing begins April 10 and continues Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and
the class on painting begins April 13, and continues Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.
The courses are open to students at all levels of skill, from beginning to seasoned

A botanical artist for nearly 20 years, Kopka first studied the art form in England
in the 1990s where she studied with one of the world’s foremost botanical
illustration teachers before pursuing a degree in editorial illustration at Otis
College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. She later obtained a Botanical Art
Diploma from London Art College in the United Kingdom, working under the
tutelage of one of Britain’s best-known botanical artists.
Indian music duo visits BGSU
Renowned tabla virtuoso Hom Nath Upadhyaya will visit the campus of Bowling Green
State University next week.
Traveling with Paul Livingston on sitar the duo will present a public concert with
the university’s tabla ensemble directed by Rob Wallace Thursday at 8 p.m. in
the Arts Village in Kreischer Quad on camus.
The duo will also visit several classes while in the area.
On Friday Upadhyaya and Livingston will give a lecture demonstration from 3 to 5 p.m.
in the University of Toledo Center for the Performing Arts followed by a concert
at 8 p.m. at the Robinwood Concert House, 2564 Robinwood Ave., Toledo. There’s a
suggested donation of $10 for the concert.
Toledo Rep auditioning for ‘Best Little Whorehouse’
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will hold auditions for "The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas" Saturday at 1 p.m. for singing and acting, and Sunday
at 3 p.m. for dancing, at Studio A of the Valentine Theatre.
The musical comedy, directed by James M. Norman, on will be staged June 8-24.

‘Easter Catechism’ comedy at Valentine
TOLEDO – "Sister’s Easter Catechism: Will My Bunny Go To Heaven?" will be
staged at the Valentine Theatre, Saturday at 8 p.m.
The comedy starring Colleen Moore is the latest in the "Late Nite
Catechism" series.

Writing artist statement focus of Toledo workshop
TOLEDO – Mike Arrigo, professor of art at Bowling Green State University, will
present the workshop "Writing Your Artist Statement" April 10 from 6
to 8 p.m. in Room 450 of the Professional Building, 1838 Parkwood Ave.
The workshop is free for visual and performing artists, writers, composers, and other
creative workers. Artist statements are needed to apply for an artist residency
program or graduate school, to submit work to galleries, or to obtain funding
for a project.

Eighth blackbird headlines Heidelberg new music fest
TIFFIN – Grammy Award-winning ensemble eighth blackbird will headline Heidelberg
University’s New Music Festival this weekend.
On Saturday at 7 p.m., eighth blackbird will perform a concert of music by Timo
Andres, Nico Muhly, Andy Akiho, David Lang and Phillip Glass.
Today at 7 p.m. the ensemble will present a workshop, selecting excerpts from current
explaining to the audience how they rehearse and present their music.
The festival will conclude with a concert Sunday at 3 p.m. featuring music from
composer and Heidelberg professor Dr. Brian Bevelander in honor of his
retirement.
All events are in Ohl Concert Hall.
