Mammoth ceramic sculpture being constructed at 577PERRYSBURG – Ceramic artist Laurie
Spencer is set to complete a large coiled clay sculpture at The 577
Foundation.Spencer is working with pottery students at the foundation to create
the seven-foot-tall sculpture using 6,000 pounds of clay.From July 10 through
July 18 they will construct a kiln to fire the ceramic dome sculpture and then
fire all day and night for three days.After the firing, the kiln will be
dismantled and the clay sculpture can be viewed by the public.The Foundation’s
hours are daily from 9 am until 5 p.m. Any group visiting the grounds larger

opens in BGA reception to mark the opening of a new PRIZM-curated art
installation at Sam B’s Restaurant Gallery, 163 S. Main St. in Bowling Green,
will be held Friday from 8 to 10 p.m.Acoustic guitarist and singer Bruce Lillie
will perform.The exhibit will be up through the end of September, and features a
theme called, "It’s Summer and the Living is Easy!" The exhibit
features more than 100 works of ceramics, jewelry, glass, sculpture, painting
and drawing with an international theme.Metal Visions exhibits opens at Akimbo
GalleryAn exhibit of artwork by Shelly Sabo, Metal Visions. opens Friday at
Akimbo Gallery, 175 N. Main StreetAn opening reception live entertainment and
refreshments will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.The show continues through July
27.Sabo’s exhibit will feature vignettes and thematic, framed wall art, as well
as jewelry and home d?©cor pieces created in various metals. Sabo has long been
drawn to metal working. She says, "I enjoy taking a blank sheet of metal or
plain metal wire and creating something that is so much more. I can apply
texture and patina through hammering, drilling, brushing, shaping and
embellishing. I’m drawn to this medium because I can take a cold piece of metal
and transform it into a piece with warmth and beauty."Describing the
evolution of her art, Sabo notes, "In my quest to grow as an artist, I
continue to follow where my interests lead. Patterns and forms from nature often
provide the inspiration for my pieces." A native of northwest Ohio, Sabo’s
work is often informed by her extensive travels. She has travelled throughout
Asia and North America, and has lived in Japan and Korea as well as the

band Haywire will perform a Rhythm on the River concert Sunday at 4 p.m.The band
members are Rick Spitler, Pete Heydinger, Brent Lowry, Lexi Rapp, and Rick
Thomas.Spitler, who assembled this band, performed with local legend Bob Wurst
for 23 years, and they opened for more 50 national country stars.The Rhythm

is sponsoring a photo contest, and the entries are coming from all over the

where the Audubon Center and Sanctuary’s 2012 Nature Photography Contest has
received submissions from China, Great Britain, India, Iran, Palestine, Romania,
Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, three Canadian provinces and 32 states.Photographs
are submitted digitally. The deadline is June 30Adult winners in each of the
categories of Wildlife, Plants/Trees/Fungi, and Landscapes will receive $100.
Youth Division winners (18 and under or still in high school) will receive $50.
