Gallery hop to showcase BG art scene

Four fine art venues in Bowling Green will present First Friday Gallery Hop on Friday
from 5 to 8 p.m.This inaugural event, which will occur the first Friday of each
month, will provide an opportunity for the public to come visit the galleries to
view exhibits, and at various locations, watch artist demonstrations, meet the
artists, listen to live music and enjoy refreshments.The participating art
venues this month include the following:• Akimbo Gallery, 175 N. Main St., will
feature an exhibit by Shelly Sabo entitled “Metal Visions.” Sabo’s pieces will
include framed art as well as jewelry in metals. Also on exhibit will be works
by Susan Woodard, Mary Dennis, Deb Goldberg, Anne Maiden, Nate Masternak and Bud
Dennis. Live music will be provided by Lucy Long’s Old Time Jam. Refreshments
will be served.• DADA, 131 W. Wooster Street, will present an exhibit by a
number of local artists working in various media.• Manabigama Pottery Center,
13270 Bishop Road, will offer a large assortment of fine functional and
decorative wood fired pottery. There will be a wheel throwing pottery
demonstration. Light refreshments will be served.• Studio14 Tattoos and Body
Piercings, 125 N. Main St., will present art of various styles, including
drawings, paintings and tattoo inspired artworks. On display will be works by
Laura Flickinger, Digger Pierce, John Embry, Joe Peabody and Corey Jones. to 8
p.m. From paper to canvas, and even skin, get a chance to view the multifaceted
skills of the artists of Studio14.The galleries have banded together to present
the First Friday Gallery Hop because, according to organizer, Susan Woodard:
“Bowling Green has such a vibrant arts community, we really wanted a way to
increase our visibility and make the public more aware of what we have to offer.
Looking to the future, Woodard said she’d like to see more galleries and arts
organizations joining. “Our message is simple: there’s a lot of art in BG.”
