BG voices star in Toledo Opera’s new season

TOLEDO – Two voices from Bowling Green will highlight the forthcoming season of the Toledo Opera.
Soprano Sujin Lee, of Bowling Green, will star as Mimi in "La boheme," the opening production,
and tenor Shawn Mathey, a native of Bowling Green, will be the featured artist at the opera gala in
spring.
The opera recently launched its campaign to sell subscriptions for its 2012-2013 season consisting of two
fully staged operas and an opera gala. All three productions will take place at the Valentine Theatre,
with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
Puccini’s "Le boheme" will be staged Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. with James Meena,
former artistic director of the Toledo Opera now serving as principal artistic advisor, conducting.
Lee has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and has played the Countess in Le
Nozze di Figaro, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and
Cio-cio-san in Madama Butterfly. She currently serves as an adjunct assistant professor of voice and
opera at Bowling Green State University.
Also in the cast will be Jennifer Rowley as Musetta.

The season will continue Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 17 at 2p.m. with Mozart’s Don Giovanni, conducted by
the Toledo Symphony’s Stefan Sanderling.
Philip Cutlip will perform the title role. Cutlip has performed with opera companies, orchestras, and
ballet companies throughout North America and Europe, including Minnesota Opera, Seattle Opera, and New
York City Opera.
The Opera Gala, April 12 at 8 p.m. and April 14 at 2 p.m., will close the season The Opera Gala will
feature Mathey, an acclaimed tenor who has performed with distinguished opera companies and music
festivals throughout the world including the Paris Opera, the Opernhaus Zurich, the Salzburg Festival
and the Frankfurt Opera.
Mathey and Lee are husband and wife.
The Gala will be conducted by Sara Jobin, who regularly conducts for San Francisco Opera, as well as many
other opera companies and orchestras throughout North America and Europe.

Single tickets will go on sale Sept. 4.
