Downtown Perrysburg ready to Rock the Docks
PERRYSBURG – Downtown Perrysburg, Inc. will present Rock the Docks Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight.
This social event features live music provided by Velvet Jones, adult beverages and a night filled with
dancing.
Admission is $5 and the event will take place at the docks in Hood Park.
Velvet Jones is a Toledo trio which plays a mix of modern and classic genres, a wide mix of new and
modern rock songs, 1990s alternative, big 1980s retro and classics from the 1960s and 1970s.
The northwest Ohio group consists of Mark West (vocalists/guitar), Wasim Hawary (vocals/bass,
programming) and Tony Pasquinelli (vocals, drums) and hit the music scene in the mid 90’s. This will be
Velvet Jones’ third appearance at Rock the Docks!
Last year’s event drew nearly 600 people and included 56 volunteers.

Barbershop harmonies to ring out on towpath
GRAND RAPIDS – The Harmony Commanders will perform a Rhythm On the River concert Sunday at 4 p.m. in the
Wright Pavilion on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street.
The Harmony Commanders have been singing together since the summer of 2011 and have been entertaining
audiences around the metro Toledo area since their inception. Members are Tom Granata, bass; Scott
Vargovich, baritone; CJ Hartman, lead; and Jim Stark, tenor.
The programs are sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society.
Waterville Playshop gets state hall of fame honors
WATERVILLE – Waterville Playshop was inducted into the Ohio Community Theatre Association’s Hall of Fame
earlier this month.
In order to be chosen, Waterville Playshop had to be nominated, include a short essay as to why this
person or entity should be inducted and have at least three letters of support – the Playshop received
10.
OCTA President Joe Barton presented the induction plaque to Sam Macera (himself a Hall of Fame winner
2010), current Chairman Gary Buerk, and past Chairman Matt Zwyer. This past season the Playshop
celebrated its 60th year of theater.
The OCTA Hall of Fame was established five years ago.
Also, the troupe’s newsletter, "Calls and Cues", received four awards.
Owens casting Chekhov farces
Auditions for the Owens Community College A production of the "Seven Short Farces by Anton
Chekhov" will be held Sept. 24 and 25, from 6-9 p.m. in the Studio Theatre in Center for Fine and
Performing Arts off Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
Each individual is encouraged to prepare a comedic monologue as part of the audition or a monologue will
be provided for them. The theatre production dates are Nov. 15-18.
Books, prints, photos from Manet’s time on view
TOLEDO – An exhibition showcasing approximately 120 books, photographs and prints produced during the
time of Édouard Manet opens today at the Toledo Museum of Art.
"Prints and Authors from the Time of Manet" explores graphic arts created between 1830-1890 by
some of the most talented artists of the period, including Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Pierre-Auguste
Renoir, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Honoré Daumier and Manet himself.
On display through Jan. 13 in the Works on Paper Gallery, the show complements "Manet: Portraying
Life," which opens in Oct. 7. Admission to the exhibition and museum is free.
