BGSU Arts Events: 11-05-12

TUESDAY
The 1997 film “The Fifth Element,” directed by Luc Besson and starring
Bruce Willis with Milla Jovovich and Gary Oldman, will be screened at
7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film Theater of Hanna Hall. Willis plays Korben
Dallas, who finds himself shaken out of his humdrum existence in a
battle to save the world from a mysterious evil force.
The Graduate String Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Wildwood Metropark’s Manor House in Toledo.
WEDNESDAY
Conductor, composer, musician and radio personality William (Bill)
McGlaughlin will share his thoughts and approaches to music and the
business of music at 7 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts
Center. McGlaughlin is this year’s guest artist for the Dorothy E. and
DuWayne H. Hansen Series. His radio program “Exploring Music” is heard
across the country including daily at 11 a.m. on Toledo’s WGTE-FM.
THURSDAY
The 1997 German film “Comedian Harmonists,” the story of a popular
singing group in the late 1920s and early 1930s whose rising careers
were halted when the Nazis forbade them from performing because half of
the group was Jewish, will be screened at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film
Theater.
Master of fine arts students Anna Rose Welch and Paul Morin will read from their work at 7:30 p.m. at
Prout Chapel.
Jazz Lab Band I will perform with noted jazz vocalist Karrin Allyson at 8
p.m. in Kobacker Hall. Allyson is the second guest artist for the
Dorothy E. and DuWayne H. Hansen Series.
FRIDAY
The Wind Symphony will perform under the direction of Dr. Bruce Moss at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall.
NOV. 13
Jazz Lab Band II will perform at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall.
NOV. 14
The University and Concert Bands will present a concert at 8 p.m. in
Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center under the direction of
Dr. Carol Hayward and Dr. Kenneth Thompson.
AT THE GALLERIES
“Curiosities: Rick Valicenti and the 21st Century Thirst” continues in
the Willard Wankelman Gallery at the Fine Arts Center through Nov. 11.
Valicenti’s work represents art, function and real human presence,
which is the focus of his communication design firm Thirst/Chicago.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 6 to 9
p.m. Thursdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The “SAFA Glass Exhibit SAGA” exhibition continues through Nov. 7 in the
Bowen-Thompson Student Union at BGSU. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9
p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends.
