Community Band ready to have fun at concert
The Bowling Green Area Community Band will return to the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center for its
spring concert "Gotta Play" May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will focus on fun pieces along with favorite marches and arrangements of familiar hymns.
Two circus-themed pieces "Zooveniers" and "Clown Act", which feature different
instruments in the band imitating animal and circus sounds, are on the program. Other highlights include
"Colonel Bogey" from the movie "The Great Escape", a medley of favorite Michael
Buble’ songs, the theme to "Hawaii Five-O", and the Overture to the French comic opera
"Raymond: The Queen’s Secret".
The band will be conducted by Thomas Headley, Bruce Corrigan, Assistant Conductor and Nick Ezzone,
Conductor Laureate.
Energetic paintings on Akimbo Gallery’s walls
"Better Living Through Synergy," an exhibit of paintings on canvas by Nate Masternak will be
featured at Akimbo Gallery, 175 N. Main Street, Bowling Green from Friday through June 14. An opening
reception will take place Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Live music will be provided by Stephen Masternak, Angel Cody and Nate Ziegler on acoustic guitars.
Refreshments will be served.
Masternak’s paintings are conceptual, with a contemporary, energetic and emotional theme. His paintings
consist of vibrant colors, symbolic images, artistic writings and the suggestion of motion in the form
of scattered and uninhibited lines. Masternak created the large scale mural, "Rescue, Restore and
Release" on the exterior of the Cherry Street Mission in Toledo and other murals in Toledo.
The gallery, located inside the Squeaker’s CafĂ© building, is open from noon to 5 .m. Tuesday through

Cheryl Magrum hosting piano concert in library
A piano recital of students from Cheryl Magrum’s studio will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Wood
County District Public Library.
Students performing are Matthew Fyfe, Kathryn Fyfe, Tiffani Boice, Jack Hanus, Macy Hanus, Gabriel Morin,
Grace O’Hare, Miranda Lentz, Nash Boyer, Alex Boyer, Molly Fitzpatrick and Daniel Cagle.
3B’s ‘Rent’ opening tonight
MAUMEE – Three Bowing Green performers will appear in the 3B Productions’ staging of "Rent"
running tonight Friday and Saturday at 8 p.n. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601
Conant St.
Nicole Navarre, of Bowling Green, will play Maureen with Patrick School and Jailyn Harris in the chorus.

The cast for the hit Broadway show also includes leads Brian Carlucci, Michael Barlos, Lindsay O’Rourke,
Dylan Coale as Angel, Dave Johnson and Thomas Rabuano with company members Robert Pamies, Joe Barton,
Sarah Nowak, William Edmondson, Katelyn Fandrey, Kaleigh Gray, Riley DeBacker and Stephanie Dennehy.
Dennehy directed and choreographed the show with musical direction by Todd Schreiber.
The show does contain adult content.
Tickets are $13, $11 for seniors and students and $15 for preferred seating.

Flying Joe shows on tap
PERRYSBURG – The Flying Joe, 130 Preston Parkway, will host two more shows in May.
On Saturday Sarah & Lucas Guy will perform and on May 26 Taylor & Ashleigh.

Toledo Orchestra ends season with Sibelius
TOLEDO – The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will feature violin soloist Tianwa Yang conclude its Classics
Series season Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
Yang will perform the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius with the orchestra under the baton of Stefan
Sanderling.
Opening the program will be the Sibelius’s celebration of hi native land "Finlandia."
The second half will be devoted to Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "The New World" by Anton Dvorak.
