Downtown mural celebrates Black Swamp Arts Festival
Nikki Myers and her art class at Bowling Green High School are putting the finishing touches on a mural
project that celebrates the 20-year history of the Black Swamp Arts Festival.
The finished mural will decorate the wall of the vacant Rail Billiards at 145 N. Main Street and will be
installed on Friday afternoon as the Black Swamp Art Festival begins.
"We tried to capture the essence of the festival with the youth area, music, art, food, people and
downtown," said Myers. The artists are also including several hidden salamanders in the design.
The project began last spring after Myers was approached by members of the festival committee. She and
her students did preliminary design work before the summer break, then Myers worked out the technical
details of how to create the artwork over the summer.
The Downtown Foundation coordinated the donations that funded the project.
