Elmwood homecoming ‘A Royal Affair’

JERRY CITY – "A Royal Affair" is the theme for this year’s Fall Homecoming at Elmwood High
School.
The 2011 Fall Homecoming court was honored in a pregame ceremony Friday evening and was the culmination
of spirit week activities at Elmwood. Homecoming activities will conclude tonight with a dance in the
high school auditeria.
This year’s royal couple is Vanessa Wagner and Dexter Lee.
The queen is the daughter of Nick (1975) and Cherie (Aufdencamp, 1980) Wagner of rural Wayne. At school,
Wagner is senior class president as well as president of Student Council, secretary of National Honor
Society, treasurer of FFA and a member of Spanish club. She is also a varsity cheerleader and member of
the track team. She attends Christ’s Church in Bowling Green. While unsure of her post-graduation plans,
she is considering majoring in physical therapy and minoring in Spanish.
The king is the son of David (1978) and Shelley Lee of rural Cygnet. He is a member of the cross country,
wrestling, and track teams, and is involved in FFA and Spanish club. Outside of school, Lee participates
in Young Life and attends Brookside on the BGSU campus. Following graduation, he plans to attend college
and major in culinary arts.
The court includes senior attendants Sarah Laborie and Thom In’t Groen, junior attendants Madison
Reinhard and Lorne Strausbaugh, sophomore attendants Mackenzie Potter and Brik Dauterman, and freshmen
attendants Koleen Avery and Billy Hiser.
Laborie, of rural Bloomdale, is the daughter of Doug (1981) and Sandy Laborie. She is a member of the
cheerleading squad and the track team, and is involved in National Honor Society, Student Council and
FFA. Out of school, the senior participates in 4-H. She attends the First Church of God in Risingsun.
After graduation, Laborie plans to major in radiation therapy.
In’t Groen, of rural Wayne, is the son of Jack and Carola In’t Groen. At school, he is a member of the
Spanish club and FFA. His future plans are to attend the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Reinhard is the daughter of Max and Cory Reinhard, rural Fostoria. She is a member of the cross country
and track teams, is a wrestlerette, and participates in Spanish club, newspaper and FFA. Outside of
school, she participates in the Ritz teen thespian guild, Country Guys & Gals 4-H, and is a camp
counselor at 4-H and conservation camps. Reinhard also is a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in
Fostoria. After graduation, she plans to attend BGSU for journalism and then join the Peace Corps.
Strausbaugh is from Fostoria and is the son of Dale and Joan Strausbaugh. He is a member of the cross
country, wrestling and track teams, as well as FFA. Outside of school, he participates in Young Life and
attends Christ’s Church in Bowling Green. He plans to attend college majoring in either pre-veterinary
medicine or political science.
Potter, the sophomore attendant, is the granddaughter of Martha and Dwight Patterson of rural North
Baltimore, and the daughter of the late Sara Patterson Potter and Fabian Potter Sr. of Ashtabula. She is
a member of the basketball and track teams, and is involved in Spanish club and choir. She is a member
of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in North Baltimore. Following graduation, Potter plans to attend the
University of Toledo or University of Michigan to become a sound engineering technician.
Dauterman is the son of Ryan (1984) and Penny (Gill, 1984) Dauterman, Bloomdale. At school, he is a
member of the football and wrestling teams. He attends Mt. Zion United Brethren Church and his future
plans are undecided.
Avery is the daughter of Mike (1986) Avery of Wayne and Lisa (Allion, 1986) Avery of Bowling Green. The
freshman is a member of the softball team, band and FFA. Outside of school she participates in the
Farmcrafters 4-H club.
Hiser is the son of William and Kerstin Hiser of Cygnet. He participates in band, choir and track.
Helping with Friday’s ceremony were four first-graders. Each child has at least one parent who graduated
from Elmwood. They included: Emaline Lee, daughter of Ryan (1994) and Cora (Leach, 1996) Lee of Jerry
City; Wyatt Zeigler, son of Daniel (1995) and Heidi (Mercer, 1995) Zeigler of rural Wayne; and Adam and
Anna Meyer, the twins of Matt (1992) and Tina (Wonderly, 1993) Meyer of rural Cygnet.
All homecoming activities are sponsored by the student council under the advisorship of Barb Slagle.
