Owens holiday band concert to honor Pearl Harbor vets

The Owens Community College Concert Band will welcome the holiday season, as well as pay tribute to four
Northwest Ohio veterans of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, when it perform Sunday at 2:30
p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, on Oregon Road in Perrysburg
Township.
Musical selections presented by the Owens Concert Band, which is comprised of Owens students and
employees and community members, will include "The Star Spangled Banner," "Under The
Double Eagle," "The Spirit of Christmas," "Rhapsody for Euphonium," "Happy
Holiday/White Christmas," "Christmas a la Big Band," "A Celebration of
Hanukkah," "A Fireside Christmas," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Have Yourself a
Merry Little Christmas" and "Salute to the Colors".
Prior to the performance of "At Dawn They Slept (December 7, 1941)," the remaining four World
War II veterans from Northwest Ohio will be honored for dedication and commitment to their country. The
four American service men being honored are Tom Child, Findlay, James Gilbert. Toledo, John Fox,
Sylvania, and Charles Kessinger, Toledo.
Among the local students performing in the 45-member band are: Elizabeth Brandeberry, flute, Tina
Brandeberry, bass clarinet, Fostoria and Desera Dean, clarinet, Bowling Green.
Community members participating are John Wilson, French horn, Northwood; Gloria Buck, trumpet, and Edwin
Knepper, trumpet, Walbridge; and Mike Toneff, trumpet, and Clayton Weis, trumpet. Owens faculty and
staff involved in the Owens Concert Band include Chair of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Doug Mead, oboe,
Perrysburg.
