Wood County Salon No. 741
WESTON _ Salon 741 of 8 et 40 held their first meeting of the 2011-2012 year on Sept. 8 at Weston
American Legion Post with potluck at 6:30.
Installation of Wood County salon officers was held as follows: Le chapeau – Tammy Firsdon, le demi
chapeau premier – Gloria Verbeke, le demi chapeau deuxieme – to be announced, l’ aumonier – Darline
Weaver, l’ archiviste – Anne Michel, l’advocate – Betty Briggs, l’concierge – Darlene Hanneman,
l’secretaire-caissiere – Kathy Oldham, l’surintendants – Darlene Hanneman, Colleen Phillips, Amanda
Shambarger.
Guests from Departe-mental of Ohio and neighboring salons attended.
An auction was held from gifts brought by the membership. The money benefited Children & Youth
and the Nurses Scholarship programs.
Troy-Webster Legion Unit 240
LUCKEY – President Lila James opened the September auxiliary meeting with 12 members and two guests
present.
Kathryn Shaffer reported ordering and receiving pamphlets entitled, "What does Pledge of Allegiance
mean, teacher?" She gave these to the second grade teacher at Luckey Elem-entary with a gross of
small American flags.
For September as Music Month, Leslie Myers sang a song with the Americanism theme – "Go Light Your
World" – and encouraged the members to attend a football game and view the large American flag that
Pemberville and Troy-Webster American Legion Units purchased for Eastwood School. It is used with the
band.
Shirley Davis, membership chairman, reported that 59 members dues have been sent in to date. The
department president will be a guest at the unit’s Veterans Day Dinner in November, so the unit wants to
be at goal by then.
Ruth Peters and Elaine Moenter removed the old faded poppies from the Troy Township cemetery.
Shirley Davis reported sending 2,470 coupons.
Members voted to confer life membership on Leona Ault, Kay Rappold and Mary Jane Reitzel.
A letter was received from the Department stating that they are deducting one year from each person’s
total member years.
School of Instruction is Sept. 23-24. Davis, James and Rosemarie Heilman are to attend.
Homecoming for Department President Vie Grzybowski will be held at Levis Commons. Cost per person is $30.

A motion passed to use a $200 donation received from the Mildred Bockbrader family to send an extra girl
to Girls State.
The rummage sale at the hall will be Sept. 23-24. Bring items in early.
James passed out papers for each member to fill in information about their veteran and send to the
Department president. A "Wall of Honor" will be made with the pictures and information sent
in.
Maxine Cross will have a special program for the next meeting on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
