TODAY
The New Music Festival opens with a performance by jazz saxophonist Tony Malaby and his Tamarindo Trio at
7 p.m. at the Cla-Zel Theater, 127 N. Main St., Bowling Green
THURSDAY
Aimee Nezhukumatathil, author of three poetry collections, reads from her work at 7:30 p.m. in Prout
Chapel.
The 2010 Belgian film "Ill?©gal (Illegal)" will be screened at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film
Theater in Hanna Hall.
New Music Festival guest composer David Lang will discuss his work at 2 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall of the
Moore Musical Arts Center.
Educator and performer Christopher Azzara hosts "Inspiration and Meaning through Improvisation"
at 4 p.m. in the Bryan Recital Hall. He will discuss using creativity and improvisation in the
classroom. Part of the New Music Festival.
The Percussion Ensemble will present a concert, "Laws of Nature," featuring music of David Lang
and other works at 7:30 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. Part of the New Music
Festival.
"Downtown Music," featuring faculty, student and guest performers will be presented at 9:30
p.m. at the Cla-Zel, 127 N. Main St. in Bowling Green. Part of the New Music Festival.
FRIDAY
Two world premieres – "T9P" for nine trumpets by Mathew Roddie, and "Jonah," for nine
bass clarinets and narrator by Brad Balliet- will be presented at 10:30 a.m. in the Bryan Recital Hall.
Three other pieces make up the program on the concert, titled "One." Part of the New Music
Festival.
"E pluribus unum" featuring works for brass ensemble and saxophone, including
"Fantasmi" by BGSU’s Dr. Marilyn Shrude will be presented at 2:30 p.m. in Kobacker Hall. Part
of the New Music Festival.
"Messages," including two world premieres of pieces by James Mobberley and Jeffrey Brooks, will
be presented at 4 p.m. in the Bryan Recital Hall. Part of the New Music Festival.
Mantra Percussion will present the U.S. premiere of Michael Gordon’s "Timber" at 8 p.m. in
Kobacker Hall. Part of the New Music Festival.
SATURDAY
Mantra Percussion performs works by students from the Toledo School for the Arts at 10:30 a.m. in Bryan
Recital Hall. The concert will be followed by a discussion with New Music Festival guests about programs
cultivating young composers.
Spoons, ukuleles, toy flutes and marimbas are among the instruments on the program for
"Playthings," at 2:30 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall. Part of the New Music Festival.
The New Music Arts Festival concludes at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall with the BGSU Philharmonia, Wind
Symphony and Collegiate Chorale in "Method in Madness." Featuring music by David Lang and
others. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and $3 more on the day of the event. Call

SUNDAY
"Prix de Beaut?© (Beauty Prize)," a 1930 French film starring Louise Brooks, will be shown at 3
p.m. Gish Film Theater.
Faculty performers will perform a baroque concert at 3 p.m. at the Toledo Museum of Art.
AT THE GALLERIES
The "Fresh Ohio Exhibition" continues in the Willard Wankelman Gallery of the Fine Arts Center
through Oct. 18. Among the artists are Andy Buck, Bob Lazuka, Ellen Price and Leslie Shiels. The
"Millennium Sculpture: Concept, Craft, Tradition and Trends in American Sculpture" exhibit
continues through Nov. 19 in the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday-Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
