Harp duo to perform at Way Library Sunday
PERRYSBURG – A harp duo will perform in the café area of Way Public Library on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Harpists Alizabeth Nowland and Emma Mattei are students at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

They will play classical harp pieces by Franck, Handel, Bach, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn, Granados and Manuel
de Falla as well as a Broadway medley, a variety of Spanish dances, and music for solo harp
"Colorado Trail" by Grandjany and "Gitana" by Hasselmans.
Nowland, a graduate of Perrysburg High School, is studying harp and trumpet and plans to pursue a career
as a professional musician and teacher.
Emma Mattei grew up in Romania where she was a prize-winning harpist and orchestra performer.
‘Freedom Riders’ film focus
of Reel Options discussion
PERRYSBURG – "Freedom Riders" will be the focus of the Reel Opinions film discussion May 19 at
10 a.m. at Way Library.
The American Experience episode "Freedom Riders" tells the story of the band of civil rights
activists called Freedom Riders who in 1961 challenged segregation in the American South. This program,
presented in conjunction with WGTE, will air on WGTE on Monday at 9 p.m.
At Way the documentary will be shown at 10 a.m. with the discussion at approximately noon.

Toledo orchestra present spring family concert
TOLEDO – The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will present a family concert Sunday afternoon in the Toledo
Museum of Art Peristyle.
Metroparks of the Toledo Area will offer family activities at 2 p.m. in the hall’s lobby followed by the
concert at 3 p.m.
The orchestra, conducted by Jeffrey Pollock, will perform pieces inspired by spring and nature by Richard
Strauss, Antonio Vivaldi, and Maurice Ravel.

Museum directors forum set
TOLEDO – The directors from three distinguished Midwest art museums will present a forum Wednesday at 6
p.m. in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
The forum will feature: Graham W. J. Beal, of the Detroit Institute of Arts; David Franklin, Cleveland
Museum of Art; and Brian Kennedy, of the Toledo Museum of Art.
The discussion will focus on how the directors deal with the challenges of economic downturns and
changing demographics in their communities.
The free event is being presented to celebrate International Museum Day.
Organ prodigy performs at Holy Rosary Cathedral
TOLEDO – Adam Brakel, celebrated as an organ prodigy will perform a solo concert on E.M. Skinner organ at
Rosary Cathedral, 535 Collingwood Blvd., on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Brakel began his keyboard study at the
age of four and, not yet 30, has established himself as a renown concert organist. He has been a prize
winner in several prestigious national and international competitions and recently completed a concert
tour of England. He currently serves as director of music at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in St.
Petersburg, Florida.
A freewill offering will be accepted. Co-sponsored by the Toledo Chapter of the American Guild of
Organists.
Husband-wife Egyptologists to talk about mummies
TOLEDO – Egyptologist Bob Brier, one of the world’s foremost and most popular authorities on mummies, and
his wife, art historian Patricia Remler will present "Myths and Mummies" Friday at 7:30 p.m.
in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
The free event is in conjunction with the exhibition "The Egypt Experience: Secrets of the
Tomb."
Host of a series of award-winning television specials for TLC, including the blockbuster series
"Pyramids, Mummies and Tombs," Brier also has written several scholarly books, including
"The Daily Life of Ancient Egyptians," "The Murder of Tutankhamen" and
"Egyptian Mummies: Unraveling the Secrets of an Ancient Art."
Remler is an author and photographer as well as a scholar. As an art historian, she was the researcher
for the TLC/Discovery Channel three-part documentary series, "Pyramids, Mummies and Tombs;"
the six-part series, "The Great Egyptians;" the one-hour program, "Napoleon’s Obsession:
The Quest for Egypt," and the three-part series, "Unwrapped, The Mysterious World of
Mummies."
