Zoo concerts on hiatus
TOLEDO – A fixture of the area summer musical scene, Music Under the Stars at the Toledo Zoo, will be on
hiatus this season.
In announcing the decision, the Toledo Symphony cited several factors for the decision.
Attendance at the series has been flat for several years. Taking a year off will allow the symphony to
focus on bolstering funding for the concert band series and work to increase audience.
Also, long-time conductor of the band, Sam Szor, known as Toledo’s "Mr. Music," is ill.
According to the symphony’s press release: "He remains in good spirits and the TSO wishes him the
best during his recovery."
The symphony hopes to complete a community survey to assess the future of the series.
