For years growing up Dominique Hutchinson kept her singing to herself.
Then she discovered karaoke, and her talent blossomed. That skill earned her a spot on ABC’s
"Karaoke Battle USA" where she placed as one of the top two female contestants in the northern
regional held in Chicago.
That she just fell short of moving on in the show isn’t going to keep her from pursuing her dream of
singing professionally. "I’m not disappearing," Hutchinson, 24, said.
Her fate was revealed to the world Friday when the second episode of the show aired.. She and only a few
others knew the result, and she was busting to tell, but in this case she held her tongue.
She and her family, friends and others who can claim to be her early fans gathered at Skybar in downtown
Bowling Green to watch the show.
Hutchinson said a "poor song choice" hurt her chances. For her second number on the show, when
she facing off with Cassandra Jopp, the eventual winner.
The number of songs she could pick from was limited, so she went with Miranda Lambert’s "The House
That Built Me."
The song has a strong emotional pull, but "it didn’t show a lot of vocal range," Hutchinson
said. "It didn’t showcase my voice."
Already in the wake of the show, she sang on a Toledo radio show, backed by a musician friend.
Playing with live musicians in addition to recorded tracks is definitely an avenue she wants to explore.

She’d also like to write some of her own music, and have the chance to record it. "I’d like to make
time to devote to my music as much as I can especially now."
